How to Choose a Training Potty
Today, there are many different kinds of potty chairs on the market to choose from. If you're not sure which training potty is best for you and your child, do some comparison shopping to see what is out there. For example, you will find potty chairs that sit on the floor as well as potty seats that fit right on top of the big toilet. These seats may be part of a floor standing model that can be converted. Some children prefer a floor potty, while others like sitting on the adult toilet with the help of a potty seat.
Your child's input is crucial when it comes to choosing a potty training chair. They should help you choose which seat to buy. If your little one has favorite cartoons, themes or colors buying a potty that features them may help encourage use. There are even potty chairs that play music and lights when used. If this seems a bit extreme for you, there are plenty of non-musical chairs your child is sure to like. For some kids, simple is best. A basic white potty chair or potty seat for the toilet may be a good choice.
One important thing to look at when shopping for a potty is ease of cleanup. As a parent your job will be to empty and clean the potty, so choose a model that makes it easy to do so. When shopping for a potty, you may want to pick up accessories such as a potty training doll or potty training DVD. At the least, an informative book on the subject can be of great help to you. You can find all these supplies anywhere baby and toddler merchandise is sold.
The training potty you select should be comfortable for your child. If they are reluctant to use it, try sitting them down with a book every few hours and asking them to try to go without pressuring or demanding. If your child complains and wants to get up, let them. Pediatricians agree that children train at different ages and some are as old (or older) than 36 months when they finally master the art of potty training. Once your child is successful most of the time with using the toilet, consider switching them from diapers or training pants to underwear.
